Why use Dumbbells for training?
Dumbbells are one of the simplest and most complete pieces of equipment for training!
There are several advantages to training with dumbbells: you'll be able to work unilaterally (i.e., one side at a time), which has numerous benefits in balanced programming (rebalancing, specific work...). Dumbbells enable you to work on your muscular imbalances. If you do a bench press with a barbell, you "artificially" gain in stability. Whereas with dumbbells, you're forced to use stabilizing muscles to balance the movement.
The 3rd point, and by far the most important, is their versatility. They don't take up space, so you can do a wide range of exercises.
Can I only train with this type of equipment?
Yes, you can choose from any of our dumbbell sets and create a program based solely on dumbbell exercises. In our blog section you'll find a minimum of one exercise per body part to be performed with one or more dumbbells.
Which dumbbell weight to choose?
It's hard to say exactly which dumbbell weight to choose, as it can vary so much according to your own weight, level, technique and the exercise (WOD, hypertrophy, strength...) you're going to perform. The key is to find the weight that will enable you to perform the required number of repetitions while reaching the limit of muscular failure.
If you're buying a hexagonal dumbbell
A hexagonal dumbbell will have a single weight, so you can start with these values:
- For a novice, beginner (woman or man) you can already do many exercises with dumbbells between 4 and 17.5 kg with a good margin for progression.
- For higher levels, you'll generally know your PR (personal best) and percentage of weight linked to it, but start at least at 8 kg for exercises such as lateral raises or forearm strengthening. Our models go up to 40 kg for the most advanced.
If you prefer an adjustable Dumbbell
If you're not thinking of doing Dumbbell Snatch-type movements, you can opt for our adjustable Dumbbell model. As the name suggests, you'll be able to vary the weight to suit your preferences. If you want to be able to do crosstraining at home, opt for a hexagonal model for cushioning and specific grip.
Our storage and maintenance advice
As for storage, nothing could be simpler: our Dumbbells are highly resistant and designed to last under normal conditions, i.e. in a sheltered place, avoiding exposure to the elements. A cloth and any cleaning product will do for maintenance.
